The Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) program is designed for anyone who is interested in learning more about the emergency response system and caring for patients in the back of an ambulance en route to the hospital. Students will gain the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation to sick and injured patients. Among many others, topics covered in this course will include patient assessment cardiac arrest management, airway management, patient immobilization, diabetic emergencies, strokes, and seizures.
Students will have a blended learning experience, with lecture information presented online and live skills and high-fidelity scenario training experiences.
This course is offered in cooperation with Office of Emergency Medical Services and the CT Department of Public Health. The curriculum prepares students to take the exams to become Nationally Registered EMRs, and State of Connecticut certified at the Emergency Responder level. This program is open to students age 14 and up.
Course Fee include textbook, online classroom, stethoscope, blood pressure cuff and BLS Healthcare CPR Certification.
