This EMR to EMT Bridge Program is an entry level course of 120+ hours that will prepare students for participation in pre-hospital patient care. This is a State of Connecticut approved bridge course that trains an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) to become an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Students enrolling in this course will be required to provide proof of a valid EMR certification.

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program is designed for anyone who is interested in learning more about the emergency response system and caring for patients in the back of an ambulance en route to the hospital. Students will gain the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation to sick and injured patients. Among many others, topics covered in this course will include patient assessment cardiac arrest management, airway management, patient immobilization, diabetic emergencies, strokes, and seizures.

Students will have in person lectures, with weekly online quizzes to complete along with live skills sessions and ambulance ride time scheduled with local ambulance service or clinical observation at Middlesex Hospital in the Emergency Department.

This course is offered in cooperation with Middlesex Hospital, Office of Emergency Medical Services and the CT Department of Public Health. The curriculum prepares students to take the exams to become Nationally Registered EMTs, and State of Connecticut certified at the basic Emergency Medical Technician level.
