Description
The Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) course provides first responders with the knowledge and skills to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges in their communities, coworkers, and themselves.
This nationally recognized certification course meets the Connecticut Paramedic requirement for Mental Health First Aid training and is specifically designed for members of the Fire, EMS, Law Enforcement, and Emergency Management communities.
Through interactive discussion, scenario-based learning, and evidence-based instruction, participants will learn how to provide initial support and connect individuals to appropriate professional resources— all while protecting their own mental wellness.
Course Topics Include:
- Understanding mental health and substance use disorders
- Recognizing early warning signs and crisis indicators
- De-escalation and communication strategies for first responders
- Reducing stigma in public safety
- Self-care and peer support within emergency services
- Connecting individuals with local and national resources
