First Approach EMS Education is proud to introduce a new and exciting program—Into the Flames: Exploring Fire and Emergency Services. This 12-week course offers participants a hands-on introduction to the fire service, designed to prepare those interested in firefighting, fire protection, or emergency services careers.
Held in-person at the First Approach Training Center in East Windsor, CT, this program meets one day per week and runs concurrently with our EMT courses, allowing students to explore multiple pathways into public safety.
Participants will gain a foundational understanding of fire science, emergency operations, and the firefighter selection process, along with valuable insight into both public and private sector opportunities within the fire and emergency services field.

• Introduction to Fire Science and Fire Service Careers
• The Firefighter Selection Process – Application, CPAT readiness, and interview preparation
• Fire Chemistry and Physics – How fires start, spread, and are controlled
• Fire Protection Systems and Building Construction
• Public Fire Education and Community Risk Reduction
• Public and Private Support Organizations
• Fire Department Structure and Resources
• Emergency Incident Management and ICS
• Physical Readiness and CPAT Training
• Career Development and Interview Skills
